Exercising with a Friend: 5 Fun and Effective Workouts

Exercising alone can sometimes feel lonely and boring. But when you have a friend to join you, it can make the whole experience more enjoyable and motivating. Working out with a friend not only helps you stay accountable but also adds an element of fun to your fitness routine. In this blog post, we will explore five exercises that you can do together with your friend.

1. Partner Squats

Squats are a great exercise for strengthening your lower body, and doing them with a partner can make them even more challenging. To do partner squats, stand facing each other with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold each other’s hands for support. Now, simultaneously lower yourselves into a squat position, keeping your backs straight and knees aligned with your toes. Push through your heels to return to the starting position. Repeat for a set number of reps or time.

2. Plank High-Fives

Planks are an excellent exercise for strengthening your core muscles. To do plank high-fives with a friend, both of you should get into a plank position, facing each other. Make sure your bodies are aligned and your core is engaged. Now, lift one hand and reach across to give your friend a high-five. Alternate hands and continue high-fiving for a set number of reps or time. This exercise not only challenges your core stability but also adds a fun and interactive element to your workout.

3. Medicine Ball Passes

Medicine ball passes are a fantastic exercise for working your upper body, core, and coordination. Stand facing each other, about an arm’s length apart. Hold a medicine ball with both hands and extend your arms forward. Now, simultaneously twist your torso to one side and pass the ball to your friend. Your friend catches the ball and twists to the opposite side to pass it back to you. Continue passing the ball back and forth for a set number of reps or time.

4. Partner Push-Ups

Push-ups are a classic exercise for strengthening your chest, shoulders, and triceps. Doing partner push-ups adds a fun and competitive element to the exercise. Start by getting into a push-up position facing each other, with your feet hip-width apart. Lower yourselves into a push-up, and as you come up, give your friend a high-five. Repeat the push-up and high-five on the opposite side. Continue alternating sides for a set number of reps or time.

5. Wheelbarrow Walks

Wheelbarrow walks are a challenging exercise that targets your core, shoulders, and arms. One person acts as the “wheelbarrow” while the other person holds their legs and walks on their hands. To do this exercise, start by getting into a plank position. Your friend then grabs your ankles, and you lift your legs off the ground. Your friend walks forward while you walk on your hands. Switch roles after a set distance or time to give both of you a chance to work your upper body and core.


Working out with a friend not only makes exercise more enjoyable, but it also provides accountability and motivation.
